Ashtanga Yoga and the Awakening of Kundalini CANCELED

Practice and Talk inspired by Studies on the Hatha Yoga Pradipika

With Guy Donahaye

Kundalini is divine consciousness. When the mind is extroverted, she sleeps, but when the mind becomes inwardly concentrated, she starts to awaken. The practices of hatha yoga are designed to introvert and concentrate the mind and cultivate an awakening of this divine consciousness.

In truth, kundalini never sleeps – we are asleep. We are asleep to reality. We are so absorbed in what is external that we have covered over what is internal. It is obscured by the stress life puts on our minds and bodies. In yoga we attempt to put this extraverted mind to sleep and cultivate this internal connection to the essential Self.

Through kriya, asana, pranayama, bandha and mudra, the mind is taken progressively deeper into a concentrated state. At a certain point, all awareness of the body ceases as the mind too collapses in on itself dissolving into emptiness. What remains is pure consciousness, pure awareness, the essential Self.

Dear Friends,

I will be coming to Great Barrington fresh from an in depth study in Mysore of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. The Hatha Yoga Pradipika shows a bridge between the physical practices such as, kriya asana, pranayama etc. and the internal practices and experiences of meditation and Samadhi. I look forward to sharing fresh insight through practice and theory.
