A weekend of Pranayama in the Ashtanga Yoga Practice Tradition with John Campbell

Prana & Practice: A weekend of Pranayama in the Ashtanga Yoga Practice Tradition

The pranayama (“control of vital energy”) practice is a powerful contemplative method linking breath, mind, and body. In the Ashtanga Yoga system it is considered a vital complement to the far better known asana practice, and a critical component in the overall “yoga of eight limbs.”

This workshop-module offers a practical, safe, and accessible approach to the principal techniques of pranayama based on a traditional Ashtanga Yoga lineage transmitted directly to the instructor from Shri K. Pattabhi Jois. Opportunities of this kind are extremely rare.

Students will gain a foundation in the breathing patterns, along with the associated mantra and meditation practices used in pranayama practice. The workshop also provides a theoretical introduction to the mapping of the subtle-body in Yoga systems, and the role of praṇa within this scheme.

These classes will be geared to all practitioners, from novice to advanced.
