Mysore practice is an open-studio, self guided practice session with 1-2 teachers present to guide students individually in the Ashtanga yoga system of practice. This individualistic and traditional approach to learning yoga allows each student to work at their own pace, utilizing the Ashtanga yoga framework of postures and intelligent sequencing, specific breathwork, and in depth study to be integrated over time as appropriate for each student.
We welcome all bodies of all abilities, knowing that adapting the practice as a therapeutic tool is at the heart of Ashtanga yoga’s intent, and is available to all people willing to work creatively with focus, determination, and open communication with us as your teachers, guides, and collaborators with your personal practice goals.
The Ashtanga Yoga Mysore Program at Sruti now recommends beginning students to observe 1-3 Mysore sessions minimum prior to beginning practice. This may be done during any Mysore session between the hours of 8am-9:45am. We ask that you stay and observe for 15-20 minutes each session though you are welcome to observe longer.
We require that students new to Mysore style practice participate in a minimum of 3 Introductory classes prior to working with us in the Mysore room.
Visitors with an established practice may drop-in to any Mysore class. Please check in with us prior to practicing to help us orient to your practice and your needs.
ASHTANGA YOGA has deep roots and is practiced in a similar manner world-wide. It is based on an “eight-limbed” (asto means eight, anga, limbed) approach to yoga that systematically engages students for an ever-evolving and individualistic practice.
