The Science of Life
Rest. Reconnect. Renew.
SRUTI Yoga Center Welcomes Maribeth MacKenzie
Friday May 26th – Sunday May 28th
Friday 6-9 pm: Rest on the element of Earth
In this session we will uncover the mystery of Ayurveda, the Science of Life. We will begin with an introduction to the Four Soul Questions meditation, leading into a discussion of the five elements of earth, water, fire, air and ether and how they relate to the three doshas of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Time will be spent discovering your Prakriti, your most balanced state and your Vikriti, a snapshot of your correct state and ways to recognize where you are in balance and where you are out of balance. We will discuss the characteristics of each dosha and how we can use specific asanas and practices to help balance our body, mind and spirit. We finish up with a guided meditation, Restorative Practice, and rest, to connect with the element of earth.
Saturday 9 – 12pm: Reconnect with the element of Fire
Using Vinyasa and Ujjayi to build heat and burn through the impurities, we dedicate this day to the element of fire. Starting with a guided meditation focusing on the Four Soul Questions, then moving into the marrying of breath and movement to build heat and burn through the impurities. Our discussion will focus on how the element of fire is used not only to burn through the impurities of the physical body, but to help us metabolize all we consume and are exposed to through the five senses.
Saturday 1:30-4:30pm: Fire destroys and Fire creates
In this session we continue to peel back the layers of what makes us us. With understanding of the doshas and their creative elements, we can now take a deep dive into applying the principles of Ayurveda in daily practice. Proper digestion is essential to health. Improper digestion may lead to toxicity. A strong digestive fire and healthy appetite, combined with the right foods and life style practices, can help to eliminate toxins and provide proper nourishment for the body, mind and spirit. In this session we will discuss the six tastes, the six colors, BITS: Body Intelligence Techniques, and how this all applies to living a lifestyle that complements and helps to balance our dosha.
Sunday 9 – 12pm: Renew with the element of Air
In this session we renew with the element of air. Once again we begin with a meditation on the Four Soul Questions and move into an asana practice that will bring lightness and freedom of movement. Our discussion will focus on daily rituals that will help to detoxify, purify, rejuvenate and bring lightness to body, mind and spirit. Learn to harmonize with the changing seasons found in nature and in ourselves by nurturing ourselves with a satisfying diet. Discussion will also include how to use occasional fasting as a useful tool for transformation.
